In 2013, DFA deemed that their current headquarters, located adjacent to Kansas City International Airport, was hampering their growth by being too small and inefficient.

In July 2013, AREA Real Estate Advisors was hired to evaluate their existing building against existing and build-to-suit options both in Kansas and Missouri. Because this is an on-going process, at this time, it is believed that DFA will need upwards of 120,000 SF from their current 72,000 SF. AREA is preparing to distribute RFPs and conduct developer interviews. Concurrently with the site evaluation process, the States of Kansas and Missouri have presented their economic incentives proposal for evaluation to AREA and DFA’s incentives attorney, Stinson Leonard. Upon receipt of the developer’s proposals, AREA will submit a financial impact analysis to DFA for evaluation. The new headquarters was occupied in May 2017.
