New Owners Have Reopened Classic Cookie in Waldo

Kansas City’s Classic Cookie, a Waldo neighborhood favorite, well known for their incredible cookies, has reopened under new ownership at Romanelli Shops.  The café and bakery got its start on the Country Club Plaza in late 1981, selling fresh cookies from the oven.  Later that year, they moved to Waldo where they’ve been a mainstay since 1988, serving breakfast, lunch and pastries.  The business was recently put up for sale in September of 2021.

What started as a quest to find an affordable commercial kitchen for their growing meal delivery and catering business ended with Hailey Allen and chef Bryan Sparks announcing plans to reopen the beloved Waldo restaurant. The Classic Cookie & Cafe, along with their meal service company, Beloved on the Go, opened at the end of 2021.  The new owners remodeled the spot at 409 W Gregory and expanded the menu. The dining room has been reconfigured, providing more seating for guests and an open bakery counter to expedite to-go orders.  The cafe will include sidewalk seating and morning cocktails, along with wine and beer served at lunch come Spring 2022.
